On September 10th, 2024, Instagram's intellectual property counsel contacted Lumaa to discuss the Threaded app, which may cause confusion with Instagram's trademarks. Even if Threaded is independently owned and not affiliated with Instagram, a name change was necessary to prevent legal issues against Threaded and Lumaa.
